but be warned they are a nightmare when playing SNES games as the button configuration is so dam annoying try Mario world and you will see what i mean.
Yeah, If you're really interested in VC games it might be worth getting a classic controller.
Yes, but only if you are interested in purchasing SNES games. If you still have a GC Controller left behind, then use it. The interface if simple to use for all the VC systems (with the exception of SNES).

One downside of using a GC controller is that you have to power down your Wii when you've finished playing the game, rather than being able to hit the 'home' button. It would have been nice to be able to put down my wavebird, pick up a wiimote, and restart the wii from where I'm sat, rather than crossing the room.

You can play a VC game with it and quit out with a Wiimote just fine.
It's only while playing Gamecube games that you have to get up to turn the console on and off. It works like that because the Wii plays GC games just like a Gamecube would (i.e. they're not programmed to be interrupted by the home menu).
