This is probably old news, but anyways....Sony's scrapping the B/C chips in Europe. And to think of all those little statements they made about backwards compatability and hardware capability.....just wow.
LoL, what newbs, the whole software emulation through update thing really sucks, I hate it on the XBOX (even though I probably wouldn't play to many XBOX games anyways) That is not the right route to go down...

EDIT: I read up that Sony is making a different ''design'' for the Ps3 in Europe and that it does not feature the backward compability.
But they also say there is something to look forward to in this new design and it will be EU (PAL) exclusive.
I hope it means that the Multi-region element will still be there.

Yet another example of Sony's unbelievable greed in the last few months. Rather than letting people enjoy all their old favourites for PS1/PS2, instead they now can't play them on PS3 until the system is updated. And if it's anything like the 360's backward compatibility updates, they'll be waiting a very long time to play many even slightly esoteric titles.

Their main concern right now is pushing BluRay into the industry as well their entertainment center machine. Its not a gaming console. Its a cluster f*ck of appliances that most people ALREADY own. You are aware that Nintendo is making money from you right out of the box, right? Sony and Microsoft are actually losing money on their consoles. In other words, Nintendo CAN sell the Wii for much cheaper than they are selling it now. Or even in simpler terms, you are getting less, way less than what you are paying for.
But back on topic, Sony is not very wise for taking out the hardware emulation chip. Hopefully they will hear the complaints and add it back on like what they did with the HDMI for the 20 GB PS3.

A bit of last minute news... seems like the surprise Sony had in its hat for the EU gamers, or well... at least the UK people are that the games will sell at 39.99, 10.00 below the Xbox 360 games.
