Hey guys, I decided to make this thread to celebrate the activation of Metal Gear Online Beta, which is to go online on Monday 21st April.
Anyway, I am already prepared for the big day: I have downloaded the Beta, the update and set up both my Konami and Game ID. I have to say, it was such a hassle to get the update and both of the IDs.
So, how many of you guys are ready/nearly ready and did you find the whole process a "walk in the park" or were you frustrated by the continuous errors displayed by Konami's ID site?

I guess Im no good at finding new things... I enjoy all the Metal gears.. but well I;ve never heard of this lol <Hangs head in shame>

Ah, Just took my PS3 online.. and found the Download in the Store.. Nice.

Not sure what Game ID.. you mean you had trouble with.. Guess I not that far yet.

Can you still get the beta code ?

If you live within Europe, you do not need the Beta Code to get the Beta or to play it online. When you are downloading the update for the Beta, use these tips for a faster download:

- Use the Peer to Peer option.
- Switch the Port number to 8080.
- Disable the upload restriction.

I found that these changes allowed me to download the update within an hour and a half.

However, you do need both the Konami and Game IDs. You can register for both of the IDs here:

Trying to sign up for a Konami ID though.. and well everytime i start .. 2 pages later I get error timed out.. (Must be many trying to do it).

Just need to get a Konami ID now. Updated last night

let us know how it plays. i wont be getting it.

I've given up trying to sign up for a Konami ID.. I get this everytime I pass the Location page.

I can understand your frustration. It took me several tries to get past the information entry page.

Found the solution.. and for anybody else out there still trying here it is..

1- Get Firefox.
2- Download an addon for it called AutoFormer.
3- When your trying to sign up, after you have filled details in on one page go to Edit> AutoFormer> Save all fields.
This will save you the trouble of doing them each time, as they will be done automatically for you.

Using This method I managed to get all the way through in 2 tries.

Wow. I guess the servers are just completely annihilated or something.

I managed to get my Konami and Game IDs, and I updated the MGO Beta in about 45 minutes (using Byu's advice)...but once I attempted to start a game it would either be 'unable to connect to server' or it would 'disconnect from server'. I've had a scan round the net and A LOT of people seem to be having these problems.

I'll try again tomorrow hopefully and let you guys know...if anyone else gets a chance at some point, have a go and inform us please! I was rather excited to play it now as well.

I played MGSO3. Even though it was plagued by head shot hackers after the first month of release, the game had so much going for it. Konami shut down the servers after a single year! I hate hackers. Hopefully the PS3 won't be plagued by hackers.

Tip: I used this method to kill Snake in sneaking missions. Even with hacks out the kazooe he was doomed with my method. It may work in MGS4. Get a shot gun and regular grenade. Next hide around the corner and toss a grenade as Snake runs by, or in an area where you can dive attack him before he gets a chance to react. Make sure it's in close quarters. Dive attack to knock Snake down. Toss a grenade at the surrounding wall. It should fall next to you. Next start shooting Snake with the shot gun while he's still down. As he gets up dive attack him again. Don't worry if you miss. The grenade will knock him down anyway. Repeat until Snake dies. 3-4 grenades and 1-2 shot gun reloads should do it. Also the dive attacks will wear down his stamina bar. Either way Snake is screwed. Congratulate yourself. You soloed Snake in a sneaking mission. I got kicked out of every Sneaking Mission game using this legit technique. Kiss my ass you hackers.
