If Mario Galaxy has a 97/100 Metacritic score, then from what I've seen, yes, this game deserves at least a 10
Game reviewers are just throwing out high scores like peanuts now for every hyped game that comes out. No one here should be acting surprised by any of this. The story mode - which is apparently very well written - gives this game that extra 3 points that Galaxy needed for the perfect... at the very least.
GTA may not get a 10/10 by people that don't like this type of game, that's fine, everyone likes something different. Just like I'm assuming some people would give Galaxy a 6-7/10 because it isn't their thing. The point is, for the type of game it wants to be, it hits all the marks and then some, thus giving us the 10/10 rating - which isn't even perfect as noted above.

So according to IGN, the game is 'perfect'? That's what I would presume a score of 100% means (they may rate out of ten, but it's essentially a percentage system). Now I like GTA, but I don't think this game is going to be completely perfect in every possible way. This is a problem with percentage-based scoring systems: give something 100%, and you're basically saying nothing could ever top this.

From what some people in this thread said its high score was mainly down to its multi player
So a good multi makes the game perfect

A "10" is not a score we give out very often. In fact, the last time we gave a 10 to a console game was Soul Calibur in 1999. A 10 doesn't mean a game is perfect -- it means a game is pushing boundaries, expanding a genre, and doing many things to a level so far above and beyond its competitors that they overshadows any flaws. Certainly, GTA IV has some issues, the most noticeable being the occasional flaw in the cover system, but there are many more pieces of GTA IV that are better than anything I've seen from a game in the past decade. We don't give 10s often -- just to games that merit the score.

I pretty much agree with Budo to be honest. I don't tend to read into reviews about really anticipated games too much because like Budo said high ratings just get flung everywhere. I'll just wait and see on tuesday!!
