Why is Hidden Power so important? I find no use for it.

BTW, I was in a half-hour fight with a Vespiquen in Battle Tower.

It knew Double Team, Defend Order, Heal Order, and Toxic. It died from Struggle's recoil. PP Maxed Gengar and Metagross FTW!

Hidden power is important for all the wrong reasons, it is the legendary 4th move needed for coverage. Seriously, thats about it.

Take for example, an infernape.
With Close Combat, Flame Thrower, and Grass Knot, it has near perfect coverage....except It has no ice move. Hidden Power Ice 70, then becomes the perfect coverage.

Strype is correct. Hidden Power is all about type coverage, whether it be for a sweeper to make his type coverage perfect, or counter a specific poke(HP elec Bronzong vs. Gyara, for example. The charge beam it learns generally isn't enough).

A lot of pokes can't counter what they need to without a Hidden Power, like Gengar(scarf) with HP Ice, countering every dragon in sight(although he can only switch in during stat up or EQ). Infact, that's one of the main reasons I scarf my Gengar :P (fear of dragon sweepers, mainly DD variants).

Technically he's not an absolute counter. The fact is he can counter the dragons in the right situation is still true. I suppose I said it in a poor fashion, but what I basically meant is that Gengar has the ability to counter the enemy with prediction, rather than counter perfectly without much risk.
