So, I have never played a Pokemon game. I don't really know anything about those little Pokemon. I do know that I am a huge fan of Squirtle. Anyway, as far as games goes, where would be a good place for me to start? Is there anything I need to know before I start playing? Do Pokemon like eating tacos?

My advice would be to go to www.serebii.net... that wil explain a lot of the gaming mechanics around the game. Plus it will show all of the pokemon of all 4 generations...

I agree with Hornjt.

You definitely don't want to beef up just one Pokemon, you want to have a balanced team with as many types as possible. My team(s) are always type-balanced, meaning I have a Pokemon that could take out it's opposing type. (ex: I have a lightning to take out water and flying, a fire to take out grass, a water to take out fire, etc.)

Also try to use Pokemon that will take out more than one type or have more than one type to make them stronger. (For example, Sableye is a good counter for psychic type Pokemon because it's a dark/ghost type. This makes psychic moves useless and it's ghost and dark moves strong against psychic Pokemon.)
