It I had to have a bird, Murkrow/Honchkrow or Skarmory are a couple favs. As for 4-legged companions, I bet you'd think i'd say Ninetales, huh? Nope, my trusty Mightyena. =)
Swimmers, oohhh, too many to count. I love water pokes.
2-legged. Dragonite/Floatzel/Flygon
Floating pokes. Gengar (not Metagross)

Dragonite would be such an awesome Pokemon to have as a companion. Would definitely enjoy Lucario though. For my bird, Pidgeot.

Murkrow would make a pritty cool side kick, if not reeaking of being a familar (wizard ect). [Murkrow, a great name would be raven, but with honchkrow, ide want to call him "Godfather" or maybe just Fedora]
Growlithe, would be good to have around. "Grooowwwwwwwlll lithe"
[Im gunna have to go old school and and name him Growly, I still like James, hes a good charicter at heart]
Small floaters would work great as side kicks. The legendary trio (their small too) gengars, something of not to big size...but bronzong, stays in his ball...too damned slow.
Ninetails is too prim and proper to be walking so much, though it would just be nice to have one by your side. [Ninetails, I reserve as Homage pokes, to name after people, specificly females, Christa, Asheria (also my Umbreon) or maybe just go the high road, and name it kitsune]
Meowth, Thats right. I want a persain or a meowth....badly. They would make a good house cat...better at least than a delkitty, and LOADS better than an Purrugly...I swear, of the felines, Meowth and Persian lucked up. [Good nicknames I have used, Puddy, Tricky Cat, and just plain CAT]

i usually never nick name my pokemon unless im rushing and acidentally press yes. . . Then i usually name them their original name (bulbasaur = bulbasaur)
then when they evolve im like, CRAP! bul- i mean ivysaur use razor leaf!
