  • IV and VI on SNES are easier than the Jap counterparts. No need for excessive grinding. I recommend both games. They tell different stories which beautifully unfold. IV has more love and betrayal while VI has more of a focus on hope. And don't forget to avoid Youtube and forum boards. The games are old and people don't mind spoiling it anymore.
Keep in mind all core FF games (the ones with roman numerals) are all standalone adventures and are not sequels. Simply means III is not related to IV, V isn't related to VI etc.
What gaming systems do you own? Ignoring that factor, I'd say IV if you don't mind going old school. It's about 30 hours but it had the first "complex story" in the series. There's also VII which is good but left a lot unanswered, and the protagonist and antagonist are very emotionless. VII introduced teenage angst IIRC. IX mixed NES FF with PSX complexity. X is the best of the PS2 games. Don't recommend XIII unless you play for gameplay over story, in which you shouldn't play the series. And of course, my favorite game is VI.
lol, that's pretty funny. I like it. Only, that must have been a weak Sharpedo, as most of them can easily tear apart a super tanker. =/
