...Not really, communism has nothing to do with Mario. That flag isn't even a peace sign, it's a mushroom.

Look, the only items in the first Mario games were Stars, Fire Flowers and Mushrooms. They based the flags off of the items. Play mario All-Stars, the flag cann be seen much clearer.
