Why do you have to get more stars after defeating bowser for the final time? Any clue?

ts not that you have to get more after beating him, its that you are allowed to face him without getting them. It's to give the people the option of either following the adventure and beating bowser or getting all the stars and THEN fighting bowser. First I beat bowser and went and got all the rest of the stars with mario. But with Luigi, i got ALL the stars first and then got the last one by beating bowser.

It's all to give more choice to the player.
