Why don't I love Super Smash Brothers Brawl?
I have only had my Wii a month and really got a kick out of the Wii sports (tennis mostly) until it seems that I have reached the last computer players and can go no further.
So I picked up the Smash Bros after reading all the rave reviews about it. Firstly, I have not been into gaming in over 10 years so I enjoy games that you can just play (like tennis) but can also pick up hints and tricks should you choose to.
The first thing that stumped me was not knowing that you had to hold the remote sideways . Then I started playing the game and it seems difficult just to get started with a character and into a fight. Anyway, during game play it seems that the characters are not as responsive as say a regular fighting game like Street Fighter II (VC).
I have not had time to read any instructions, nor were any given on the screen. What am I missing here as I would really like to enjoy the game as well as have others be able to pick it up in 2 seconds like bowling or tennis.

You could try different controls like the wiimote & nunchuk or the gamecube controller or the classic controller.

Using just the remote, sideways, is the most basic way to play the game.
Use the nun-chuck + remote, or Game Cube controller, or classic controller.

Well Smash Bros is not that kind of game, unlike most Wii games; it's more for hardcore gamers. You'll need to spend a lot of time on it to get the most out of it. If you don't have time for the instructions, the best way to learn is the help video in Data.

Buy a Classic Controller and use that. It works perfect.

Sorry to say this, but there are very few games these days with which you can simply pick up and instantly start playing without having to at least briefly reference the manual. Seriously, in the time that it took you to post here, you probably could have read the entire manual and had all of your questions answered...

Also you don't have to hold the remote sideways. That's like the hardest way to play it. It's a good game all in all, unless your that kind of person that doesn't like to play a game for a couple of hours...

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am not afraid to read the manual, but I was mostly interested in games for when I have friends over that they could pick up right away (my friends are late 30's to early 40's - not the type to deal with a learning curve on a video game.
I will try the classic controler and do some research on this one though

This game does not have much of a learning curve if you get the CC, FYI. So have fun!

Actually, the Gamecube controller is $5 more than the classic controller, but it's not a big deal. The Gamecube controller is worth the money.

I guess bad grammar wins the day
If you like the button layout of the classic controller, but you want a "controller-y" feel to the controller, use the Thrustmaster (wtf is with the name).
