Basically, no one expects you to really appreciate Melee if you did not play it competitively. The people who enjoy Brawl are mostly those who never played Melee, or never played competitively.
true but nobody ever played with me in melee

Everyone here is silly. There's a difference between Brawl not having skill and not being extremely gay with all the top-level competetitors wave-dashing and all that retarded crap around the screen. Brawl being more balanced means it sucks? Come on, you guys are silly. Go play your shitty game with your amazing 3 or 4 top-tier characters.

Brawl is still skillful, and all the changes they made were for the better. Midair dodging doesn't kill your recovery is an extremely useful one.

I think Melee is a piece of shit in comparison (And I played Melee very competetively). The only thing that was better is that it had Mewtwo.

Brawl, no glitches, clean without the rabbit punches, lowblows, and headbutts.

So the top-level competitors are gay, wavedashing is retarded, people with no skill kill themselves because they can't work airdodging, and Melee is a piece of shit. Oh and all the changes were for the better, and everyone is silly.
Compelling argument, but you haven't really provided anything besides name-calling.
Maybe explain a little why you think these things.

No, but Melee top-level competetion was all about exploiting the game's flaws. That shouldn't be so. To watch a top-level Melee fight was like watching a retarded spin-off of DBZ. It was just that, retarded.

THANK YOU! My thoughts exactly. Meh I never got into the Melee craze. I didn't really care when mine got stolen, too busy with Halo. While glitches are around, prepare to get booted, geekwad.

Melee was not all about exploiting the games flaws. You would know that if you played competitively. That is nothing but a common misconception that people who do not play the game hold.
But like I stated earlier, I really don't expect people who didn't play Melee to be able to appreciate it. Obviously Brawl looks more appealing by first impression.

Brawl trumps Melee on all fronts.

Melee had no lasting appeal other than prospective tournaments in which you would only see 4-5 characters ever used and those were the ones whom benefited from the glitch system the most.

Melee had no purpose unless you were willing to devote your time to mastering the glitch system and were willing to devote countless hours to networking events to actually get to play other human being.

Brawl has a significantly less glitched system and many more characters that are actually feasible choices in the competitive world (for those who are in to that thing), plus the advantage of being online.

Melee was never really intended for severe competitive play. That is proof apparent in the fact that all the pros have to rely on a glitch system to make the game competitive in a "hardcore" setting.
If the game were truly better than Brawl, than it would be actually fun, competitive, and useful without reliance on glitches to win, or even make the game fun for that matter.

This constant accusation of competitive Melee relying on glitches is simply proof of lack of knowledge of Melee. I play competitive Melee, I don't rely on glitches. I see hundreds of others playing competitive Melee, they aren't relying on glitches.
Of course it's easy to just say Melee was reliant on glitches, but honestly if you want to use that argument, please go into detail about it. I'd be very interested to hear this.

^ this is because people talk about wavedashing and SHFFLing so much that others forget that DI and spacing are the most important techniques in the game to master. regarless of how many glitches you've mastered.

We're talking top-level. The highest level of competetion in Melee USED GLITCHES. Wavedashing, half-circle DI, pseudo-shffling, etc. The person with the fastest hands and the biggest knowledge of how to use these glitches were dominant.

Compare that to Brawl's highest level of competetion (which it is no where nearing. Melee has been out for years. Brawl just came out. Stop whining and give it a chance.). People use more than 4 characters, and the characters look like they're doing what they intended to do. There's still many advanced tactics to perfect and perform, such as

Footstool jump spiking
Teching
Short hopping
Still-Dodging
etc.

Really, the guy above Prez's post summed it up pretty well. If you keep saying that Melee did not have to rely on glitches for the highest level of competetive play, then you're silly. Youtube, my friend. Look at the highest recognized players / matches. It doesn't even look like Super Smash Bros anymore.

^ yes i agree they are important. but a knowledge of how to wavedash 100 times out of 100 isn't going to win you any matches. spacing is everything. Its not so much the lack of glitches that made brawl less competitive (for i believe more will be found). its the feel of the game. Melee was faster. you had to think quicker. and it was far less campy. in a pro game the pro players should be offensive (for example street fighter, halo) and that should be the most effective tactic. in brawl the defensive game owns... the game is more annoying as a whole. i still love it. i just wish they didn't change QUITE so much

The offensive game is still effective, what are you talking about?

And the slower pace of Brawl makes it more tactical. As you can tell, some enjoy it more, some enjoy it less. Fights only resort to dodge-roll games if you let them.

Melee - Five characters that beat every other character, 12 nerds sitting in a basement wavedashing and glitch-exploiting with Falco-religiously- constantly breaking controllers.
Brawl - A GOOD game.

Well firstly the fact that you consider wavedashing a glitch is your opinion. It is merely the game physics that allow you to do this. And these tactics are not as big a deal as people make them. Mew2king's wavedashing and SHFFLing are not what wins him games. It's his knowledge and skill of the game, and ability to combo. If he gets the chance to touch you once you lose that stock. All the glitches in the world wouldn't stop him from 4stocking you with zero damage.
Honestly, Brawl is about camping at this point. Melee was about combos. Brawls lack of combos just make it so much less intense. In Brawl the campy characters win.
Also, yes people used mostly high tier characters but those with actual skill can and do pick up other characters and do great. Look at people like Gimpy, Chu, etc... In Pound 3 not too long ago Mango, who played Jiggly won the tourney. And that's over M2K, PC, etc..
