Good find, thanks for this. Sounds like good news for me, i really enjoy the part where he says that it doesnt just have to be a game, it could possible be an application. i think thats pretty exciting too. with so much creative freedom ninty is giving developers, we could be seeing endless surprises coming from wiiware.
I didn't like this interview at all. It seemed very politic to me. In-other-words, there were a lot of non-answers. I am especially concerned with the statements about pricing:
"And it's not based on the number of gameplay hours or the volume of gameplay--we don't like to think about content and value as relating to price."
What??? What DO they consider then? Are they kidding me?
You have to remember they could release a full game here. I mean I would pay full price for a super contra with Wii level graphics! Sorta like contra 4 on the DS. Also too these are indie games they need the money bad! Most of them don't even have publishers! publisher give you funds up front to get your game made. Then you also have lots of Wii ware games that actually look better than disk based games. Why complain we will know how much it cost when it comes out.
so how do you become a developer?
Well as far as memory space goes it's good that they're not putting limitation on that. Hopefully they'll lighten up to some kind of better storage /sigh
Third party support.
Now to prepare to buy some wii points.
actually he kinda dodged around that and made it seem like he was saying they weren't limited the memory space. but they are, there's actually a number but i forget it.
I think its really good how they think about: Let developpers stay as free as they want so they can built what they want! We will see a lot of interesting titles in wiiware! Mark my words
Cant wait for it ! Im really going out and buy some wiipoints as soon as its released here in EU
You cant just become a developper. You will need to buy the development kit thats somewhere around 4000 dollars I believe.
my only problem with this channel is space VC and now wiiware and regular wii games were gonna run out of room do u think they will do a update before the channel comes out so we will have more room??
It'll take more than just an update to get more storage space. Hopefully they'll give us a hardrive/flashdrive/better SD card support. We're not gonna live on downloading- deleteing- re-downlaoding for the rest of the Wii's life. We can't.
It will only require an update to allow the Wii to be compatible with external storage devices. Right now, the only type of storage device is an SD card (and I don't really understand the technicallities) but you can't play a game straight from the SD card but you have to fully load it to the Wii first which could take ages - pretty much the same as re-downloading it. If they release an update, external hard drives could be added which could store many Wii Ware games. It could even be a Nintendo brand hard drive which would mean Nintendo could make even more money from Wii Ware.
