Animal Crossing-# of players allowed on Wii?

My family and I are new to gaming. The Wii is our first system. (Except for the DS Lite) A friend loaned us Animal Crossing for the Game Cube plus two Game Cube controllers. We can only get the Wii to recognize one. It would not work at all with our Wiimotes. Is that right, or is there something I should be doing that I'm not!? Help! Both kids want to play!

Animal Crossing for the GCN is only one player but you can have 4 different player accounts [houses] in the game.

are you using wour wiimotes to play or the two game cube controllers, you shougl use the cube controllers, lift the flap up on the top of the wii there are 4 ports put the controller in 1 of the ports!
