In the manual it actually sais that some contests will have prizes for the winners.

Dont know if the mario one has but in the future there sould be prices involved in some contests. ( if they didnt "forget" that they said so )

in the operations manual when you click the home button, it says that the winner of the mii contest will get that mii show cased for other people to copy it to their Wii
