Controls for a Wii Shooter?!?!?!

Yeah so we all want a shooter where the IR Pointer is the crosshair on screen, so aiming is super immersive and responsive. BUT, the best attempt at controls with this style is in Red Steel, where the big problem is turning.

So I started thinking, what control configuration would make for a good shooter? One possibility is a special Wii Remote that has a nunchuck on it in thumb's reach, so it can play like Halo and most Xbox shooters in general, but then the whole IR pointer idea has to be scrapped. What are your thoughts on this because I think the IR Pointer has great potential for a shooter, but I can't think of a good way to implement it unless its an on rails shooter like RE:UC.
