I just got off the phone with Nintendo support. They're sending me a shipping label, going to try to repair it (for free!) and send it back. If it can't be repaired, they're going to replace it with a factory refurbished unit (with a one-year warranty). Sounds like Nintendo still has the awesome support I remember. I can even track the repair on the support site!
