Finding the dojo

Made it through saving the students in the dojo, and now need to find the sword. Having saved the old guy in the dojo, the only place I can find is a courtyard with a locked door on the left.

I cannot find where to go to get to the dojo.

Any help appreciated.

i believe you go up a set of stairs :S
