Just bought a Wii a few days ago -- wanted to use the Wii Shop, but it said I needed to get a system update first.

Is that safe??? I read somewhere online that after the version 4 update, some people experienced random system freezes.

I'd sure hate to mess up the system I just got.

FWIW, this Wii came with firmware version 3.4U.

Sorry for the ignorance; I have NO previous Wii experience... :frown5:

unless you have homebrew updating your wii will cause no problems.

Yeah let it update.
The updates usually come with things

lol if u did mod ur wii dont update b/c u will be F***ed, the freezes tho really only happen (in my expirience) to those who have modded and then updated b/c then there are alot of conflicting problems on ur system

Thanks for the answers, folks!

No mods or anything fancy here -- I'm happy with the system the way it is.

Well... except that I want to add some of those Virtual Console games...

Thanks; yeah, I get that, about the VC games.

I was trying to be funny... didn't work, apparently!

homebrew generally has no issues when updating the wii menu, unless you're using IOS hacks.
homebrew itself will not cuse the wii to brick.

Well, I took the plunge and did the update to 4.1u. I haven't tested it extensively, but -- so far, so good.

My big concern (system lockup) hasn't occurred... yet!

well first off i will be a dick to you and say that the wii has no "firmware", the system menu is just a small program that is run on the wii's startup and second I will be a dick to Nintendo by saying trust me there cant be a bad enough bug made by the to **** anything up because the wii has no operating system just linking "executables".

RUN ON SCENTENCES FTW!!!!!
