friend code questions

just wondering ... ive added a couple friend codes for mario kart ... do they get some kind of message so that they know i added tham and so that they can add me???

also in the friend roster what is the little lock that you can lock/unlock for????

You need to pm them (if its on here) to let them know you added them
Then next time there on you can play aganst them (if this was helpfull give me some good rep)

The secound question I cant help you with (My only wifi games are in Jap)
