Friend codes from other countries

my first post here. wooo.

i was poking around to see if this has been answered before but didn't notice anything, so here goes.... do we know if we can add friend codes for friends in other countries(i.e. i'm in the us, and i have a friend in japan who's getting a wii in a few days)? if so, how will messages work if the consoles are set to different languages?

btw, i am so in love with my wii!
getting up an hour earlier on launch day = best decision EVER
