Gamecube Controllers and Memory ?

Looking to pickup Pitfall for the Gamecube (retro thing for me as I played hours of it on the 2600), and was wondering if I need to get GC controllers or can I get by with the Wii classic?

Also, can I save GC saves to either the Wii's internal memory or a SD card?

you need GC stuff to play GC games. go for original nintendo bits if possible rather than 3rd party copies....
