I think it does matter in bringing in a larger gamer base cause Nintendo is often criticized at aiming at kids and even if the rating really doesn't mean much it's a sign that there are games aimed at a wider audience

Call of duty 3 and the 007 one I think will be mature

Darkness will probably be mature, and the Resident Evil Wii game.

why does that matter?

Because they attract more people to buy the console. And some of them are fun.
