help in ToT . (spoiler)

ok so i just got in the temple of time and i fired up the two lanterns to get the first gate key .. i enter the room and theres a switch that opens two gates .. however i can not enter the two gates .. i cant keep the switch down .. maybe im in the wrong room i duno . having some trouble so ne help would be most apreciated ..

i think its the room where u put a pot on the switch then run behind the gate and shoot the pot

you think even tho its just a normal pot it will hold the switch . . im at work so i cant try it right now but thanks for your help
