no it cant be paused. and you can do it 1 v 1... its still a match..

just leave you and a computer on easy on, leave it at 99 lives....turn off your tv, by the time that's done you'll get mewtwo

TIP: Enter a match then quit so there's 'No Contest'

this counts as a match I did this for awhile, didn't take too long to unlock him

meh you're probably right, i haven't played ssbm in a while...it worked for me cause i already had a lot of hours in gameplay

you need to play vs for a certain amount of time.........use 2 controllers and leave the cube on overnight and bam, you got em

look, just set up a Vs match in mutiplayer, turn all items off, and just plug in two controllers so it's one on one. leave the game on, NOT paused (i learned that the hard way), while the two characters are just standing there, one day before you go to school, or work, or whatever.

when you get home, smash the player you DON'T want to use, then when it's over, a new challenger should approach.

You can try what they said, or if you are as hooked on this game as I was when I first got it, 20 hours will be up before you know it. That's really the only legit advice I can offer that hasn't already been said...
