I am already on the third one and am just wondering....I have heard its about nine but is that true?

9 if you're just counting the areas with dungeon maps, bosses, etc.

there is a large amount of gameplay between levels, though

oh, by the way. i am not through with the game yet, so there might be some area that might be counted as a dungeon that i'm not aware of.
