If the Wii has a usb slot, can it take a external HDD?

this question has been bothering me all day and i need to know the answer to affect my decision on which system i buy. that would be reeli cool bc then i can use my 300gb External HDD and then have massive storage, much more than the PS3 or Xbox 360.:yesnod:

because i would love a fun system and one were i could play all my media through it. And i have A LOT of media.
