Theoretically they could patch games to add online functionality.

But that doesn't mean that they actually will patch older games. I think they're too busy working on new online games to worry about patching older games for now.

That would be sweet to play wii sports online. I'm sure Wii Sports 2 will be online at least.

Nintendo is going the minimum for online to save money and to save children.
