link/zelda??!?!?!

hi i just wanted to know what the diffrences are between link and zelda of course i dont no much about the zelda franchise. So are they the same people or something else?

It's like Mario and Princess Peach. Link = Hero with the sword ....and... Zelda = the Princess who needs to be saved.
