E. Metaknight
Source: Official E3 trailer and official E3 artwork
First Game Appearance: Kirby's Adventure - NES
Profile:

Kirby's rival.
A master swordsman gifted with chivalry, a rare trait in Dream Land. In Smash Bros. his mach-speed sword slices make him a rather cool character.

...But his most eye-catching asset is the gallant shape of his battleship, Halberd! Incredible!

~¤~¤~¤~

F. Pit
Source: Official E3 trailer
First Game Appearance: Kid Icarus - NES
Profile:

The hero of the NES game Kid Icarus.
Head of the royal bodyguards for the goddess Palutena, a denizen of Angel Land. At will, Pit is able to separate and unite the blades of the Sacred Bow of Palutena, which was given to him by the goddess. This allows him to adapt to the circumstances of any battle as he fights.

Just as Link's design has evolved over the life of the Legend of Zelda series, Pit, who was born in the same time period, has taken a giant leap forward in his evolution.

G. Samus

First Game Appearance: Metroid - NES
Profile(s): None released at the time of this writing.

H. Zero Suit Samus
Source: Official E3 trailer and official E3 artwork
First Game Appearance: Metroid Zero Mission - GameBoy Advance
Profile:

This isn't a pure character addition. Rather, under certain conditions, Samus will "remove" her Power Suit. Whoa! That's a woman under there!

Naturally, Zero Suit Samus loses power and stamina, so she should fight using the speed she gains instead.
Also, her gun transforms and can be used as a whip. Of the two, one might consider the whip to be her main weapon.

And don't worry—you'll still be able to play as standard Samus, too.

I. Wario
Source: Official E3 trailer and official E3 artwork
First Game Appearance: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins - GameBoy
Profile:

This time, the Wario you know from the "WarioWare" series makes an appearance.
In trying to embody the flavor of the original game, we've aimed to give him some rather...excessive movements.
What does that mean, you ask? You'll just have to wait and see.

The flatulence you saw in the movie is a fantastic move we're tentatively calling the Wario Waft. The more time passes, the more Wario's gas builds up...

J. Solid Snake
Source: Official E3 trailer and official E3 artwork
First Game Appearance: Metal Gear - NES(1988), MSX (1987)
Profiles:

1: Snake? Snake! SNAAAAAAAKE!

The unexpected participant from Metal Gear Solid!
When this was first announced to the media, it was greeted with shouts of joy that resembled screams.

After much consideration, we decided to have Snake refrain from using real-world guns—instead, he'll use lots of explosives.

What kinds of attacks will Snake unleash when he steps onto a new stage?
You'll have to wait and see.

Source: Smash Bros. Dojo

2: Known For: Destroying nuclear-equipped bipedal tanks, asking short questions

Biography: The enigmatic Solid Snake has earned his reputation as one of the world's greatest soldiers by bringing down terrorist cells nearly single-handedly and averting nuclear disaster on multiple occasions. Snake is a master of martial arts and a qualified expert at using most firearms and explosive devices, speaks six languages, and boasts an IQ of 180. Believe it or not, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii isn't Snake's first fighting-game foray; he also appeared in the Japanese-only release Dream Mix TV World Fighters on GCN.

II. Super Smash Attacks (Only Plausible)
Note: Not much is known about Super Smash Attacks at this time. The only information on them came from the official E3 trailer, where Mario grabs a Smash Bros. Emblem and seems to power up. Immediately after that shot, we are shown three clips of what appear to be Mario, Link, and Kirby using Super Smash Attacks. How these actually function are currently unknown.

A. Mario: A much more powerful version of his standard Fireball attack, it seems like he does a kind of Fire Blaze attack, comparable to a small fiery hadoken.

~¤~¤~¤~

B. Link: The victim appears to be trapped between two Triforces while Link slashes them repeatedly.

~¤~¤~¤~

C. Kirby: Kirby dons a chef's hat, and proceeds to boil the victim in a pot.

~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~

III. Items

A. Nintendog
How it's used: Unknown
Effects: The Nintendog takes up most of the screen, pawing at the screen as if it's trying to get your attention. It Would probably have the same sort of effect as Togepi's Night Shade attack. It is currently unknown whether the Nintendog will be an item or whether it will come from an item such as the Party Ball.

~¤~¤~¤~

B. Smash Bros. Emblem
How it's used: It appears that it will be floating, and you will run up to it and grab it. It will automatically activate.
Effects: Appears to power up your character, allowing it to perform a Super Smash Attack.

IV. Stages
Note: It is unknown whether these stages will actually be in the final version of SSBB or not, and what exactly they will look like if they are.

A. Stage 1
The E3 trailer had a location that appeared to be a variation of the Battlefield stage in SSBM. This version was sunny, with the platform hovering above a mountainous countryside. It is unknown whether this is actually Battlefield Version 2 or just some new stage.
Screenshot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/sooperdooper/SSBB/ssbb_battlefield_countryside.jpg

When Mario grabbed the Smash Bros. Emblem in the trailer, the appearance of the level changed to look sort of like a dark, desolate wasteland.
Screenshot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/sooperdooper/SSBB/ssbb_battlefield_wasteland.jpg

~¤~¤~¤~

B. Stage 2
In the E3 trailer, we see a location where there's a large castle surrounded by forests and some mountains in the distance. There is an exterior and interior version of this level. It is currently unknown what game this level is from. The two main guesses are that it is from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or Fire Emblem. For further reading, see the rumors section.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/sooperdooper/SSBB/ssbb_castle_level_03.jpg

~¤~¤~¤~

C. Stage 3
The E3 trailer showed Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu fighting on a small stage, which then turned out to be the inside of a hangar where Metaknight's ship - The Halberd - was stored. The stage appears to hover through the air, while the Halbard flies around in the background, and it appears that it also lands on the Halberd at times.

~¤~¤~¤~

D. Stage 4
Smash Bros. Dojo posted a picture of Snake and Link in what is currently believed to be Snake's level:

V. Estimated Release Date

Early(?) 2007
Source - IGN: http://revolution.ign.com/objects/748/748545.html

Q. But I thought it was going to be a release title?
A. Well, as of this past E3, it's no longer a release title.

Q. Why not?
A. There are a couple of possibilities:
1: Nintendo may not feel they will have enough time to develop the game to its fullest extent if they have to release it by the fourth quarter of 2006.
2: Nintendo may not want it to be released the same day as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. By releasing it in 2007, it gives gamers a chance to beat Twilight Princess and possibly play through again before getting wrapped up in SSBB, which cannot truly be beaten and has infinite replay value. Also, by releasing it early in 2007, Nintendo will be able to start the year off with good profits financially.

Q. But I want it now!
A. Be patient, though the delay may seem horrible, the longer a game is delayed, the better it will be at release. Nintendo cares about its gamers, and they wouldn't delay it if it wasn't necessary.

VI. Miscellaneous Info

A. Why Snake is in the game
Mr. Sakurai: Actually what really brought about the Snake character goes back to a conversation I had back when I was developing Smash Bros. for GameCube, when Hideo Kojima contacted me and practically begged me to put Snake in the game. But at that time we were already deep in development and I was thinking that we weren't going to be able to get him in there. I told him that it was too bad he hadn't brought it up earlier, and that was the end of the story.

When this project came up, because I had been in contact with him back then, we re-initiated talks and decided to put Snake into the game.

Mr. Miyamoto: Mr. Sakurai's discussions were really more on a personal level with Mr. Kojima than on a corporate level. But obviously a lot of people have been interested in getting other characters in the game. A big part of it is having someone that you can trust to take care of your character and make sure that it turns out well. There are possibilities for other characters to appear in the game as well, and it's possible that there are corporate discussions going on now about what other characters may appear. But, maybe we’ll be talking about that another day!"

B. Who composed the main theme
Nobuo Uematsu - Famous for his work in Final Fantasy Games. For more reading, visit the official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website: http://www.smashbros.com/en/music/index.html

~¤~¤~¤~

C. Control method
"How will Super Smash Bros. for Wii take advantage of the controller?

Mr. Sakurai: We've actually been working with some different ideas, and we've found that trying to implement too much of the motion sensor could actually get in the way of the game. We're looking at trying to keep the controls simple, as they have been in past games. Of course, you all know that the Wii hardware has ports for the GameCube controller as well. So, I'll just say now that you may not want to throw away your GameCube controllers just yet!

Mr. Miyamoto and Nintendo have encouraged developers to really take advantage of the Wii Controller and find innovative ways to implement it into their games. So in that sense, I'm going in a different direction, and trying to offer something that has more of the standard control features that all of you have come to expect." - Super Smash Bros. Brawl Developer Interview: http://e3src.nintendo.com/news/shigeru_miyamoto_and_masahiro_sakurai_talk_smash_b/

~¤~¤~¤~

D. SSBB Online
From an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto and Masahiro Sakurai:
"The next questioner raised a major issue, asking if Super Smash Bros. Brawl would support the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Sakurai said his team would try to take the game online, but he thinks it would be a hard to make four-player online work."

VII. Explanation of First, Second, and Third Parties

For this, I'm going to direct you to Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-party_developer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second-party_developer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third-party_developer

To summarize:
Nintendo is a First Party Developer. They produce the Wii, and they own the sole rights to characters like Mario, Link, etc.
HAL Laboratories is a Second Party Developer. They are owned by Nintendo, but are a separate compnay, producing their own games. Everything they produce will be for Nintendo systems. As far as I know, they own Kirby. However, (this next part I'm entirely not sure of), I believe Nintendo also owns the rights to Kirby, being as they own HAL Laboratories.
Konami is a Third Party Developer. They are not owned by Nintendo. As you know, Konami produces games for all consoles. Konami owns Snake. In order for Nintendo to use Snake in their game, they must pay Konami a licensing fee.

It is the fact that Nintendo must pay each third party developer a licensing fee for each third party character that makes it unlikely that there will be an abundance of third party characters in SSBB.

VIII. What's this I hear about being able to suggest characters?

As pointed out by bluefish:
http://revolution.ign.com/articles/707/707671p1.html

NOTE: This is no longer in effect.
At one point, you could go to the Japanese version of Smash Bros. Dojo and suggest a character, stage, or music.

X. Rumors

I repeat, these are RUMORS.

A. Samus' Super Smash Attack: At one point in the E3 trailer, Samus fires a massive blast at Metaknight and Pit. It is possible that this is her Super Smash Attack.

~¤~¤~¤~

B. Fire Emblem Stage/Characters:
"From: JWJ442 | Posted: 5/11/2006 3:19:30 PM | Message Detail
(thanks to the good people at FESS)

First of all, there are only three Nintendo franchises with castles: Mario, Zelda, and Fire Emblem. It definitely doesn't look like Peach's castle or Hyrule castle. Not really like Bowser's, either. It has a fairly realistic medieval look to it, which leads me to believe it is from Fire Emblem.

Now, look at this flag:
http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a28/joeljermon/?action=view&current=flag2.jpg

and compare it to the Daein crest from FE9:
http://eaichu250.superbusnet.com/FE9/images/CGs/Map6.jpg (near the top of the map)

The flag has the same color scheme and looks somewhat similar to the top of the Daein crest at an angle. The flags outside the castle have the same colors as well, and look a bit similar from a distance:
http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a28/joeljermon/?action=view&current=flag1.jpg

This raises a couple of interesting things. First of all, I duobt they'd include two stages with the same theme, so it looks like the stages may be segmented into different sections now, which the part with the Halberd also indicates. Second, we're likely to get another FE character, probably one from FE9. I hope it's not Ike. He's cool, but we already have two swordfighting FE lords."

~¤~¤~¤~

C. Sonic: In Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM)'s April 2002 issue, they posted faked screenshots of both Sonic and Tales in Super Smash Bros. Melee as an April Fool's Joke. Many gamers were fooled by the joke and posted countless topics on the SSBM board. Eventually, CJayC put a custom topicality warning on the board stating that it was only a rumor, and that posting any more topics on the matter would be considered disruptive posting. However, the idea of Sonic being in Super Smash Bros. never died. With the inclusion of Snake (a third party character) in SSBB, people are now hoping that Sonic will be in SSBB as well.

~¤~¤~¤~

D. Baby Bowser, Ridley, and Cel-Shaded Link: A rumor had started some time ago that there had been an interview with Sakurai, in which he stated that Baby Bowser, Ridley, and Cel-Shaded Link were going to be in the game. It also mentioned a couple of characters that were going to be removed. This was completely false. As far as I know, one of the users here on Wiichat started the rumor here and on another site or something, and then it just took off like mad, with random gaming sites posting the rumor. Tons of people believed it, and it caused a lot of strife until it was finally resolved. However, this does not eliminate the chance that either Baby Bowser, Ridley, or Cel-Shaded Link might be in SSBB.

~¤~¤~¤~

E. Release Date: Nintendo Power has stated that they are going to profile one of the "brawlers" in SSBB each month. The first profile was in Vol. 206, released in June of 2006. If they profile one of the currently known characters each month until the game is released, that would put the release date 9 months after June, or March 2007 (aka "early 2007"). However, this rumor has a very weak foundation and should not be taken very seriously.
