i just hope this game has a good story too, not just pointless shooting.

From what I understand, the story isn't all that great. It's good enough to get by, but it's not all the deep. CERTAINLY not like the Metal Gear Solid games.

The story is: The main character (the guy you're playing with) was supposed to marry this woman in America. But then, she gets kidnapped by the Japanese mafia (yakuza perhaps) and is taken back to Japan. He then goes to Japan to rescue her. And what makes it kinda funny is that the character supposedly had never fired a gun and needed training, so he's learning to fight along the way. I HOPE it gets deeper than that, but I still think for a first gen game, they're doing ok.

I DO wish the AI was a little better though. Those bad guys in the video looked like they were TRYING to get shot!

There is more to a story than just the inciting incident. Are you forgetting that when you're playing through the game, the story builds? From the interview with one of the writers for Red Steel, I got the impression that he built the story REALLY well, and it's going to be pretty in depth.
