This channel needs some ratings controls!

I like the idea, and want ot be able to keep it available, but tonight with my 7 year old we access the news and got:

Teens Admit To Killing Dog In Oven
Catholic Diocese of Charleston sets aside $12M to settle sex abuse ...
Church hosts 'porn and pancakes' event
Sex offender accused of posing as child in US indicted with 3 ...
US soldier gets 18 year in jail for Iraq murder

Come on, can't I filter this stuff out, it seemed like I had a R rated news only filter turned on!

they do have parental controls in the wii options..... its possible that could work
then again what is looking at a few articles possiblely going to do? And its just news your son could have turned on the tv and flipped to the news any day before.....its not like they show pictures of all that stuff u were talking about.....or even give brief description....I think your son will be fine

I actually turned those on today (about 4 hours before I looked at the news)
For Gaming I set it to EVERYONE 10+ and I locked out the Nintendo shop.

I didn't see anything for news filters but it appears that there should be one. I don't know if there are any codes in the AP feed that could be used or if they need to allow parents the ability to build a black list word filter.

Yes my son will be fine, but no he can't just flip on the TV and find this stuff on the news.
I watch TV with my son and filter out content that he is not ready for.
When topics like this come up we take the time to discuss them together.

When we turned on the Wii news channel I found my self getting too many difficult headlines all in a row. I would like to have seen better content, things that we could read together and could generate interest in current events.

heh. and people started complaining that the Wii was too kid-oriented.

i agree with this guy, if i had kids i wouldnt want them seeing that kind of stuff or reading it so to speak, maybe send an email to nintendo and ask them if there is a way to set a filter up.

Thanks for your support, I did before I posted here..
(Still can't post on the Nsider forums though, waiting to get my ratings up).

Nintendo has always been very responsive to comments I have sent in on their web site.

I suspect if more people let them know of their concern they will address the issue.

Lol! I know when I was a kid I avoided the news. You should applaud your kid for reading. Of coarse that was back in the day when the news was boring and not as biased. I'm referring to news on TV. I would appreciate more gaming news, otherwise I think it's another huge advantage for the Wii.

WTF. . .the news is real life; you shouldn't be shielding your kids from it unless you want them to live at home forever. AP news isn't rated likes games, movies, and tv shows so you just might as well just delete the channel or wake up to real life and let you kids read it if they damn well please to.

censorship is bullshit anyway.
i was never censored from anything when I was a kid - the only thing my mum never let me watch was faces of death - i saw it years later and i was just disgusted by it. (if u don't know what faces of death is, it's like a documentary on death with very graphic real footage of like cows being slaughtered for meat, old-school capital punishment and suicides, just for example).
as for video games and the news, god... it's called reality and so many people try to avoid it at every opportunity.
I say Nintendo have given a lot to try to cater for as many people as possible - i could sit on here and ***** about all the things that I think the Wii should have too but what's the point?! Move on. Let ur child know that u do not approve of him visiting the news channel when ur not around if u feel so strongly about it. If u discover he is still visiting the news channel, tell him u have broken the trust u's both once shared and block the Wii completely so he can only use it when ur around. I think that's easier than pointing the finger at nintendo and telling them it's their problem.

well thats the American News

The Australian news is likely to be
Group of Japanese tourist disemboweled by pissed off Red Kangaroo
Poofters sent to America to represent Australians (much to my disgust)
A small town with a population of 5 received 1 mm of rain today (wow record)
Labour Party breaks election promise (noooraaaaaaaaaaahhhhh again ? i wouldnt of picked that) :mad2:
Petrol peaks at $45 a litre
Mega rich multi billionaire gives 50 bucks to charity and shocks the country

i could go on
but i need some stuff for tomorrow

Be condescending if you want but filter and search lists would be useful and not censorship if you manage them yourself.

Beyond a parents desire to perhaps filter rape, porn, murder, etc. Adults may find they are tired of hearing about Donald Trump...
While a parent may wish to search for terms like science, space, health, etc. Many adults could use search to find news about their favorite sports teams...

This isn't a child protection issue and I agree it isn't Nintendo's job to filter content, this is desire to have tools on the system to filter and search for the news system owners to read...

Mate

im not being condesending, im being light hearted
the news channel has been active for what ? a day or so and already you all upety about violent this and violent that, give them some time and maybe they will come up with something for you

my kids sit and watch the news with me whatever it may be and if theres something they dont understand i explain it to them as best as they can understand

but might i remind you, that most of the violence that we are seeing on the news around the world is coming from AMERICA or somewhere that AMERICA is trying to impose its oil agenda (iraq)
Gang warfare (America) Terrorisim (seeded in America, now effects the whole world) some of our dumber kids in Australia that have no culture are emulating American Gangs and getting in our faces with all that American Gang style and behaviour and their pathetic dress sense :yikes: :eek:ut:
i could go on and on about what i think about America
But i cant be bothered right now

Australia sure is the lucky country :blush2: :ihih:

so if your worried about all the violence in the News today, then the culprit lies no further than your own twisted country

have a nice day :cornut:
