Nintendo is now pushing out digital downloads for the UK, according to wii.qj.net.

According to a recent survey, only 15% of gamers buy DLC and a much larger 43% aren't even aware that they exist. While that particular survey wasn't exactly scientifically conducted, Nintendo must have similar figures on their tables. Couple that with the fact that they haven't been as proactive in digital sales as their two competitors, ol' Ninty has made its move. The publisher is now promoting Wii and DSi downloadables in the UK.

A TV campaign has already kicked off yesterday, showing the online capabilities of both the Wii and DSi. This TV campaign will go on for three weeks, directing people to the official Nintendo site for tutorials on how to get themselves online.

As for the usual worry of physical retailers, Nintendo won't be ditching them just to push for online sales. They'll be provided with info sheets and staff briefing so they'll know what to tell consumers about DLC.

Nintendo tells MCV UK:

WiiWare and DSiWare are not threats to retail. We don’t believe today’s packaged business will simply be replaced by electronic distribution.

Titles like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart and Wii Fit will always work best with the big launch presence that only a retail environment can provide. WiiWare will work alongside retail. It is not a replacement.
