Nunchuk IR?

Hellllo everyone. Just had a quick question(s):

What sort of motion-sensing control/IR does the nunchuk apparatus have? I can see from Wii Sports Boxing and Metroid Prime 3's electric grapple that it can obviously read forward and back movements, but to what extent? Does anyone know how accurate or extensive the nunchuk's motion-sensing abilities are?

I was very surprised to see this because it looks like your average, every-day controller without an IR panel or something.

yeah, i know. it has a thing called an a "accelerometer: 3 axis" .

now the ps3 has a "accelerometer: 6 axis" ...........................

i.e.

1: forward/backward.
2: left/right.
3: up/down.
4: tilt left,tilt right.
5: tilt up,tilt down.
6: pivot left, pivot right.

now that may be hard to under stand but imagine a ps3 controller in your hands and try to act out each axis.

now the nunchuck. has 3 axis. i.e.

1: forward/backward.
2: left/right.
3: up/down.

now try to act out those. see????

on the nunchuck there is no pointer ability because the wii does not know where the nunchuck is in the room. the wiimote see's the sensor bar's leds and tell the wii where it is in the room and where is is pointing.
