Ok so I am in charge of setting up 2 days of activities for welcome back week at my University. My question to you guys as students, what kind of activities would you guys want to participate in in order to meet new people and feel welcome as a new student. So far I have ran the following ideas with my boss and they are looking like good options.

1. First of all we are having a huge casino thing a week after, Welcome back week. I want to tie that in with the events I am in charge of. So I was thinking about doing madden tournaments and the winners would be awarded high roller tables with special shirts and what not.

2. A beginners poker tournament, for the people that really dont know how to play. Prizes and what not etc...

I have a pretty big budget, but my goal is for people to really start using our game room as we just bought 2 PS3's and 2 wiis :yikes:

Thanks for any ideas you provide I really appreciate hearing from the students, because thats who the events are for.

LOL!

I wish, but unfortunately our drug laws are wack! I kinda had a feeling I would be lucky to get at least 3 serious posts...

3 weeks ago i was at the nintendo store in New York, and they were having a mario party 8 tournament. maybe you can also sponsor one (just a thought)

Tell them all that the people that are organizing the events aren't there yet, and make them do these things "in the mean time"......

Karaoke
Trivia game
Hula hoop contest

Have some of your upper class friends act like incoming freshmen that are just part of the group. Get those "actors" to do some crazy things, and see what type of reactions you can get from the fresh meat.

A kickball game could be good too.

Freshmen 15? what is this?

When people go off to college they typically gain weight cause they drink beer, and have bad eating habits. I guess the average is about 15 pounds.

you can gamble at a school sponsored event? or is the poker idea just for fun? just wondering...

so is this gonna be co-ed or all guys?

if it's co-ed, madden tourney = bad idea. it makes karaoke a really good option, though. i like the poker idea, but i'm a big fan of poker.

i organized a thing like this once and we played capture the flag all over campus... it was pretty sweet... everybody loved it. we have a pretty small campus though.
