Question on resolution

hi there. i am new to the Nintendo Wii and i'm planning to buy one on the next payday. i wanted to find out somehting from you guys:

what is the maximum resolution of the Wii? i heard that it support 520p or 576p? is this true? and if true will i need to purchase a separate "HD" component cable?

i'm in the UK and the "normal" digital tv here transmits 576i signal. i heard that the Wii is capable of 576i and 576p resolution? is there truth to this?
