It just bounces the frequency/waves back. Thats what the sensor bar. And if your thinking "but my sensor bar is connected the wii." Thats just for power instead of using even more batteries. Very much possible

HAH! Wow, that's unexpected! Well, not really now that I think about it, but who comes up with these things? Did someone just get this random inspiration to use candles as a sensor?

all the bar is doing is sending out infrared signals to help the wiimote figure out where its infrared beam is shooting(its basicalyl liket he duck hunt gun but more complex) and since anything emits IR almost anything will work, i made a quick video showing the IR lights inside the sensor bar.

The wiimote is just a camera with an IR filter in front of it that is constantly scanning the image for two bright spots. The 'sensor' bar is just made of IR LEDs sitting on each end. All you need is two sources of IR light appropriately spaced to replace the bar. When you go to the sensitivity adjustment screen you are seeing the camera image in real-time, and can play with other IR light sources like candles, tv remote controls, etc.
