Sonic fans are in for a real treat this year – not only is Sonic the Hedgehog 4 on the way, they’ll also be getting another brand new game that Sega just announced today, called Sonic Colors, for the Nintendo Wii. Sonic Colors features Sonic the Hedgehog doing what he does best, racing at hyper speed through the gorgeous backdrop of theme-park inspired worlds. Sonic will also come up against his arch Nemesis Dr. Eggman.

An amusement park has been seen orbiting around Sonic the Hedgehog’s home planet, with an alien race of Wisps being held prisoner by Dr.Eggman. The game blends traditional 2D gameplay perspectives with 3D action, with Sonic accelerating to adrenaline-pumping super speeds and blasting through obstacles in ways never seen before in a Sonic game. Each of the alien Wisps has a unique “Color Power” that Sonic can absorb once it’s freed. The Wisp energy enables Sonic to create new paths through the stages by drilling* through the ground (Yellow Drill), or speeding through the stage as a laser (Cyan Laser). Sonic can also string the Wisp power-ups together to make a combo that increases his boost gauge, and there will be exclusive Wisp power-ups available for the Wii and DS versions. Here’s Gary Knight, senior vice president of Marketing, Sega, talking about the game:

“In Sonic Colors, players run at supersonic speed through incredible looking planets each with their own unique visual style. In addition to the classic Sonic gameplay style, the colorful new Wisp power-ups offer a fresh new way of exploring these worlds and help make Sonic faster than ever before!”

Look for the game to be released around the holiday season this year.
