Hey, there is a poems thread right? Why not have a short story thread! Im sure most people are better at short stories anyway, right? Post some short stories you have written over the years here, share your thoughts on yours or other peoples work, or perhaps share your ideas with others!

I will post one up laters, i would like to see what other people have came up with first!

There once lived a toad. He was a cool toad.
One day some kids came into the woods and started smoking the reefer. The toad hopped over to the kids. The kids thought the toad was a gift from God, so they killed it.
The End.

I don't really write prose, but have always wanted to. Looking forward to seeing what you've written Dorkfish, perhaps you'll inspire me.

Neat, i guess... lulz.

Autumn Night~

Walking down the street of one of the most shady neighborhoods in town one Autumn night, Gerald started thinking about his past.

He had dreamed of having a fortune since he was a kid, living the life up in one of the swankiest mansions in SoCal. Feeling lucky one day, he decided to buy a lottery ticked. His feeling was true, and he had hit the jackpot. His family was so excited when they heard the news, his wife happy that he could quit his dead end job and his daughter excited about all the new stuff she could get.

Everything was great for a while, until Gerald had started wanting more. One summer, he took a trip to Vegas. He stopped at a high stakes casino, hoping to hit it big at one of the blackjack tables...

While deep in his thoughts, it had started raining, and Gerald took shelter in one of the abandoned houses down the street. He lied down next to a window and continued to think. He was feeling lucky today as well, so he decided to bet half of his fortune on one hand of blackjack, but this time he wasn't so lucky. Desperate to win it back, he bet the other half, but to no avail.

After his Wife heard the news of his stupid choices, she quickly filed for Divorce and took the kid with her, never seeing them again. He had it all, and lost it on 2 hands of blackjack. He lost his love, his daughter, his fortune, all in the span of 8 days.

*creek, creek* What the hell is that? Exclaimed Gerald, scanning the room for whatever could have made that noise. *stomp, stomp, stomp* Footsteps, from the stairs.

He saw a figure, a very large figure, stepping down the stairs carrying what looked like another, much smaller human than he in a plastic bag. Oh my god! Shouted Gerald, his heart starting to race. As soon as the giant heard it he directed his attention towards Gerald and began to march towards him, pulling out what looked to be a hunting knife from his pocket...

Police vehicles were parked outside the house. One policeman spotted the man being pulled out on a stretcher, screaming that the man is going to get him. The neighbors called the cops after they heard shouting from that house. When they saw him in the corner, quivering in fear and screaming, they did a thorough scan of the house and nobody was found.

By bringing up these terrible memories, Gerald had gone insane

Here is my story (one of them) that maybe 2 people might be interested in;)

This is not one of my best efforts but a good read none the less

An enormous clap of thunder echoed in the distance. My feet pounded the supple soil. I couldn’t stop running, not now. I was so close to what I had come to achieve. I peered down at my watch, covered in a film of rain. 4am. I had almost survived the night. I looked behind me into the smoky, uncertain distance. I was still being followed.

By now I was beginning to worry where my wife was. She was due home at five pm. The time was now eight thirty and no phone call. Nothing. I was beginning to think there was something going on in Amanda’s life. Something I didn’t know about. I switched the telly off and wandered gingerly into the kitchen for a drink.

There was a loud knock at the door. “Just a minute!” I put my drink down and headed for the door. I put my palm on the cold brass knob of the front door and felt a bone chilling curdle go down my spine. I pulled open the door. It was the police. “Are you John Andrews?”

“Yes” I said unsteadily.

“I’m sorry sir there has been a problem with your wife, you must come with us now” The last thing I remember is running into the police car.

I could see an opening in a warehouse up ahead. I headed towards it uncertain if I would make it inside. Once inside, no longer in the heavy rain, I felt a wave of relief come over me. I was going to get away. I looked out of the frosty windows of the warehouse. There was no sign of my kidnappers.

We were coming up to the Burwood police station. I looked as we drove straight by it. I notified the officer but he just ignored me and drove on. Something was wrong. Very wrong. We had been driving for around an hour now and I had no idea where we were. We pulled up in front of what looked to be an old abandoned junkyard. Surrounded by warehouses. The two police officers got out of the car and pulled out their weapons. They pointed them through the window and told me to get out of the car. One of them threw me a pair of handcuffs.

“Cuff yourself”

I collapsed into the chair by the window. I was exhausted from the run. I drifted off into a lapse of consciousness, my mind, unaware of its surroundings. There was another deafening burst of thunder, which startled me from my dreamlike state. I looked along the wall opposite to the window I was looking from. There were exquisite artworks littered all over. I studied these artworks looking for that subtle underling detail. A shadow moved across the wall. I turned around to face the window in time to see a figure eerily move across it. They had found me.

I was hurried inside the building that sat centre in the junkyard. The building was strange; it felt like I had been there before. I was hurried down the long corridor to a stone room. In the middle of the room was a captive woman tied to a chair. Her back was facing towards me however she seemed familiar in the dull light. A figure wielding a knife stepped out from the shadows and turned the chair around. It was my wife in the chair.

We were locked in the stone room together for what had seemed like a lifetime. Why were they doing this? What did they want from a fisherman and his wife? Who were they? One of the kidnappers that had brought me here, entered the room, gun in hand.” come with me” the man said staring at my wife. Amanda didn’t move. The man proceeded to grab her by the arm as hard as he could and hit her across the face. The man took Amanda away into another room.

I tensed up with fear. I saw the other man’s shadow move across the window. The door now began to rattle as the man tried to get through the locked door. I heard another noise beside me as the two men came rushing into the room demanding that I lay down on the ground and surrender to them. I had no choice but to do this.

After Amanda was taken away I got up from the cold stone floor and began to Asses my surroundings and found that there was nothing in the room apart from a wooden cabinet in the corner that was empty. I started looking for a way out of the room but couldn’t manage to find anything. I wandered over to the cabinet, which I could only just make out from the other side of the room in the dim light. I tried to move it- it was surprisingly light. I moved it out of the way and found that behind it there was a vent in the wall. I immediately took the cover off it and climbed inside. It was quite roomy and in about 3 minutes I was outside the building. I began to run as far and fast as I could, I wasn’t going to be caught by these people again. I had to notify the police- the real police- and save my captive wife. I came to an abandoned warehouse and ran inside.

I lay on the dirty floor of the warehouse. One of the men said stand up now so I did. He raised his weapon to my head.” BANG” A gun went off and the man fell to the ground. More gunshots and the other men fell to the ground. I looked over my shoulder to see my wife wielding a pistol.

She had saved my life. I ran over to her and hugged her. We were going to be all right. We walked out of the warehouse into the crisp morning air, as the suns first light crept over the hills. We walked towards the police car outside the junkyard and drove home. We arrived at about 8am and went up to the front door. I put my palm on the cold brass knob of the front door and felt a bone chilling curdle go down my spine. I pulled open the door. There was a man waiting inside…

Nice story Brendo

PS~BUMP

Ill post another one then dorkfish, seems its only you and me in ITT

The droplet of sweat trickled gradually down my face as my hands were shackled to the chair. My legs were swung around brutally and clamped down tight. The warden then proceeded to consign the electrode onto my fearful head. Each person left the room and I was left in the frosty, lifeless silence thinking about my impending demise.
My name was […is] George Newland. I was born in 1972 on a little dairy farm in Texas, USA. I don't dispute the reality that I had a tough childhood, but rather the life that followed my hard upbringing. At the age of eight my family fell into disorder. My father had been in the armed service and had tragically fallen victim to one of the countless enemies the world seems to be able to conjure up each decade.
The day we received the grim news was one of the worst in my entire life; until you have been through the tribulation yourself of losing a parent then you have no idea of the suffering, pain and anguish it causes.
My two young brothers and I watched helplessly as mum withdrew to the cold-comfort of a Vodka bottle. Childhood games of cubby houses and role-playing became real. I was "father" in a family as easily broken as the bottles that mum smashed in the fireplace. The day she took her life was sunny, with spring breezes whispering no premonition of the scene unfolding on the lounge room floor. Sleeping pills lay strewn like clover, sun rays glistened off the shards of glass from last nights Vodka bottles, and centre stage she lay crumpled, deaths child at last.
School had been one of those routines that give a structure on which you build the best education- time with your mates. I had lost my Father, what was left of my mother and now I had lost my friends. Nevertheless I held myself and my brothers together. Although we had no money I felt as though we were becoming family again. My hope slowly returned as, after all, you can only go halfway into the darkest forest; then you are coming out the other side,
Regrettably this was not the case. At the age of 23 I found myself incapable of getting any work. My siblings had taken to sleeping in the park, and as I pulled a tattered, aged blanket and newspapers over my brothers, I felt an overwhelming sense of guilt and sorrow that I had let them down.
In the months following this I became involved with a crowd that was quite wealthy, despite having a similar background to me and no job. Unenthusiastically I asked them how they rescued their lives and they abruptly replied: "Smuggling dope". I was astonished. How could the do a thing like that?
Over time I got to know these people and came to the realisation that they weren't bad people at all, they had simply done what was necessary to survive in this crazy world. I became their disciple and found myself illegally trafficking drugs from America to Indonesia. Untill.Untill I got caught that is.
I lingered in a cell much like that of my youth- stale smells, empty eyes looking for the present in a world without past or future. Despite months of appeals and hearings, the judge would not overturn the decision. Mandatory death. No one will ever understand what it is like to spend your final days on earth alone. I, too, had failed my brothers.
Suddenly I awake to the lock on my cell door opening; the guards entered and dragged me up off the icy stone floor. I was led down the hallway to the execution room. It's not the death that kills the man, it's the wait. Terror and the shuffle of my own footsteps enveloped me.
I was about to partake on a journey to the last final undiscovered place- death. With a tear streaming down my face, I looked over at the guard as he pulled the switch.
