Sid Meier’s classic swashbuckling adventure is coming to the Wii! Due to sail into port this Fall, the game is being developed by 2K China, and allows would-be pirates to experience what it’s like to serve as captain as they raid and plunder their way around the Caribbean of the 17th century, battling other pirate ships, engaging in sword fights, and wooing fair maidens, as they try and save their family from the evil Marquis de la Montalban. Here’s the legendary Sid Meier himself talking about the game:

“We are big fans of the Wii and think Pirates! is the perfect game to bring to that platform. We’re sure Wii fans will enjoy the timeless adventures of being a pirate captain on the high seas as much as all our other fans have!”

In the game, you get to helm one of 27 fully customisable ships as you travel from port to port, assembling a crew of seafaring brigands. Collect secret treasure maps, undertake daring missions, play havoc with the locals and mete out pirate justice to troublemakers, and then take to the high seas and attempt to rule the waves.

The Wii version of the game includes the traditional mini-games from the original, such as Sword Fighting, Ship Combat and Dancing, plus two Wii-exclusive mini-games – Bombardment and Lock Picking. The Wii version also offers exclusive character and ship customisation.
