Square Enix sued for "deceiving" patrons

Uh-oh. Square Enix is in trouble. No, they're not pulling out Final Fantasy XIII, though that alone would cause some major problems for them as well. Rather, they're being sued. Yes, Square Enix is being sued with a federal class action, claiming that Square Enix of America has "deceived 100,000 customers by not being upfront about fees and penalties."

Esther Long from San Francisco is the named plaintiff, and she alleges that Square Enix "lied about or concealed its monthly fees, penalties for late payments, interest, restrictions, and other things that should have been fully disclosed at points of purchase."

She is seeking for damages amounting to more than US$ 5 million for their supposed unfair business practices, false advertising and unjust enrichment.

Here's what the court filing said:

The deceptive advertising, unfair and undisclosed business practices, and concealment concern, among others:

i. Licensing of the online games software disguised as a sale;
ii. Monthly fees ("fees") to play the online games;
iii. Penalties for late payment of the fees;
iv. Interest charges for late payment of the fees;
v. Charges while the online game account is suspended;
vi. Termination of the right to use the online games for late payment of the fees;
vii. User restrictions and conditions related to the online games;
viii. Termination of game data for payment of the fees.


That's quite an accusation, dear. You better have evidence to back you up. How about you guys, did you ever feel "deceived" by Squeenix?

yeah that name is misused, "Final" should be the last journey, but no they come up with more and more, misleading.

I know thta but still they didn't have to use the same name over and over again ie Final Fantasy 2, Fanil Fantasy 3, 4, 5, 6 ect...ect...
