Stars on the online play?

So, when I'm playing online vs randoms...and I choose who I am (not character, but where it says "player 1"...and my other profiles) it has stars down there. What do those mean? They increase as I play more random brawls...but when i sign off and come back later they are gone. So what are these stars?

I believe they are your KO count.
