Super Mario Bros 3/help!

Hey All, I am trying to play Mario 3 on my Wii but it won't allow me to begin a new game. The screen won't get past this screen. Can anyone help me?
I tried every combination of button on the Wii remote.

Usually the home button gets rid of it, tried it on both controllers?

You probably need to use a gamecube control OR a wii classic control/pro.

Nar NES games use the Wiimote

I remember using the gamecube controller for it, never the wiimote.

I tried pressing the home button and the screen went blank. I hit the home button again and the same screen remains. Ugh. Can't figure this one out. I already rebooted the system and deleted and redownloaded the game. I used the Wii controller in the past with this game and it was fine.
