The Daily reports today that according to its sources who are familiar with the matter, Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii U console will have its very own Apple-style app store, with capabilities far beyond those of the current DSi and Wii Shops. According to The Daily, this new, and so far unnamed app store will feature a wide range of apps, not just the games and basic utilities that are already offered by Nintendo’s stores. The Daily adds that it understands that the available apps will be playable both on the Wii U console itself on the main TV screen, and independently on the Wii U’s controller. The Daily says that it has no word as to whether or not the Wii U’s app store will be based on actual currency transactions, i.e. real money, or if players will only be able to make purchases via a points system, as with Nintendo’s current shops for WiiWare and DsiWare.
