Those USB Ports - Uses?

G'day,

I'm a new Wiier, and am just wanting to know what uses people have found for the Wii's USB ports on the rear...?

Googling "Wii usb" gets a lot of questions about this same topic, but mostly they are all dated 2006, and given that Nintendo keep updating the Wii's firmware, I thought a new thread would be ok.

Just the other day I saw a LCD-add-on for the Wii, that turns it into a portable device via the USB ports...

I see in August 07 that the firmware allowed "limited" keyboard support for Opera...

And a lot of talk about using USB hard drives/flash drives, but nothing really concrete...

Can anyone confirm using an external drive on the USB ports?

What other fun things are you all doing with them???

Cheers

All I have plugged in is remote chargers and my wireless keyboard. I don't believe they are capable of more.

Kinda odd that they'd give the machine USB ports (which they physically appear to be, and as stated, do accept some USB keyboards), and yet then not offer a wider range of options for them...

I just tried plugging my USB flash drive in... but it didn't recognise it in the Photo program (that comes with the Wii).

Didn't try going into Memory Management...

The wii does not support usb flash drives, only SD Cards.

The usb ports serve little purpose thusfar. Many wii accessories make use of the ports, as do wireless usb keyboards.

really? i have a drink cooler/warmer, and the plasma ball and they both work fine the humping dog also works, the only thing that doesn't work is my foam missile launcher but that's because you need to load a program to control the aim and firing mechanism so i knew that wouldn't work. and i'm not sure about the paper shredder only because i have no use for it at home so i leave it at my office.
i figured anything that only used the usb for power would work since there is no control needed for any of the items i posted.

weird.

I think your post caused me to lose brain cells.

I use mind to Charge my iPod if I am too lazy to go on the computer and do it.

Hopefully in the future we will see a Hard Drive that can be plugged in back there?
