Unlocking games in Mario & Sonic's Olympic Games

We're trying this tonight but only the 100m sprint and 110m hurdles are available despite getting a "world record" at the 100m (and ranking 6000 odd on the 2nd go - better than real life!) but how do you reveal the other events? They're just unclickable question marks at the moment.
