Whatever happened to smash and bash 2 player awesomeness?

Why are no games these day two player co-op? I remember some of my best times gaming where when i was younger and me and my friends would sesh battletoads, rivercity ransom, and contra for hours. the thing that sucks about the next gen gamesystems is that there arnt very many GOOD games where i could team up with my roomates and tackle entertaining game. Does anyone know if anything cool is coming out for wii that would be co-op? (Not vc games because we still do play those all time)

IGN's Super Mario Galaxy page shows "Players: 1-2"... but then again, so did/does their Twilight Princess page.

I'd like to see co-op/multiplayer in No More Heroes.

My dream co-op (online, my 'friends' are too lame to play it co-op with me) game is Metroid Prime.
