    Start, as in accessing a menu, is the + button.

    You can press the home, or the house button, for wii remote settings, which also pause the game.

    For VC games, if you hit the Home button a screen will pop up with a choice for Operations Guide. That's your manual for that particular VC game. In there will show how the original buttons map to the Wii controllers for that game.

    It is pretty much
    Home = Pauses the Wii.
    + = pauses the game.
