I was wondering... Why did Nintendo gave the name Link to one of the best characters they have???
because he is the 'link' between the player and the world of Zelda
That is actually a reasonable answer.
Why are wheels round, its just one of lifes many awkward questions. . . .
maybe chains were involved?
maybe he is the link between good gaming and bad gaming sicne he has been on both sides?
maybe lots of elf looking things are called link?
Well thats like asking why Samus' name is Samus or Kirbys name is kirby, but i think they chose it cause it sounds cool, or maybe because the earings that link wears look like chain links. BTW i see youve found the bleach matrix pics
-Ok desu ka?
Best way to put it, good answer
I think that the name is cool, but why not a usual name like Jonhy???
"The search for the Triforce reunion begins, all the sages have been unleashed thanks to the hero chosen by the gods, JONHY!!!"
That would problably screw all the story...
I think Jonhy is a keeper.
A keeper?? You mean from the game??
No, I meant its a great name. They should have "kept" it for the game.
Lol, i thought you woulda understud that demon.
johny would preety much ruin all the mystery and darkness from zelda.
From the shadows, a hero choosen by the gods has risen, enter Johny:lol:
I thought that you were refering to a guard/keeper!?!
"Princess Zelda and is saved by Jonhy!!!" «-- LMAO!!! Not good for the critics...
the whole zelda getting saved by a johny just doesnt suit the style of game:lol:
No Link was called Link because in many of the games, he was the only link between alternate worlds. He was the link that kept the people together or he was the important figure in the game. Anything can be looked Symbolically and there are probably documented evidence around about why kirby was named kirby or samus, samus. Either way it really doesnt matter, if the name is dorky and silly and has no purpose or has hardly any significance then the hero probably sucks.. like Eragon. Taking Dragon and replacing it with an E is hardly any creative license.
orrrrrrr... They were playing pick out random words in the dictionary game...
Very Possible also. Its next to impossible to really understand why the creators named Link Link. Infact its pretty hard to determine why anyone names anything for any reason what so ever. Unless theres a paper somewhere where it has the creator saying he named it for this reason, then next best bet is to try to see symbolism.
In Japan, is Link still called link?
Actually, here's what really happened:
See, the guys at Nintendo were trying to find a name for their hero.
They tried looking for symbolism, and maybe bring a name form it... But they couldn't think of anything. The English developers were yelling at them to figure out a name, and to understand them, the Japanese developers grabbed their English to Japanese handbook.
After having a very slow argument, the Japanese struck an idea.
They flipped pages around randomly, with their eyes closed. Then they turned the book over, keeping the page. Then they had a contest to see who could hold their breath the longest. The winner was 43 seconds.
So they took the number 43, and found the 43rd word on that page.
FYI: Donkey Kong is only called 'Donkey' because someone misread what was wrote down. Obviously it was meant to be 'Monkey Kong' but 'Donkey' worked so well that they left it.
Good old Japanese to English cock-ups!
