The USB dongle allows your PC to share its network connection with your Wii. While a wireless router allows your to connect your Wii directly onto the network without keeping a PC running. The cost of a wireless router is about the same as the USB dongle while it adds more functionality and security to your network.

Why? Does its job doesn't it?

Does its job while requiring your PC to be turned on and connected to the internet any time you want to play. If someone jumps on your PC and runs an CPU intensive app it will effect the speed of the internet connection (even if the app isnt using the internet).
